Recreation

Boating, sailing, and water skiing are permitted at Conchas Lake. New Mexico State boating laws and the Corps regulations apply. Lake access is provided at the nearby boat ramp. Boaters can still access the lake at the South Boat Ramp.

Camping:

Group and family camping, picnicking grounds, playgrounds, potable water and sanitary facilities are available in the North and South Recreation Areas. Central Area is open to camping and picnicking, and has potable water. The South Recreation Area Campground will be open for primitive camping from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Fishing:

Conchas Lake provides excellent fishing. The lake is stocked by the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish with bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, large mouth bass, and walleye. The lake is open all year to fishing. New Mexico fishing licenses and copies of fishing regulations are available from vendors throughout the state.

Hiking

Hiking is permitted on established paths and trails.

Picnicking

Ample picnicking facilities are available for families and groups and are universally accessible. Picnic grounds are operated by the State Parks at the North and Central recreation areas, and by the Corps of Engineers at the Day Use Overlook and the South Recreation Area.

Swimming

Scuba diving, snorkeling, and swimming are permitted at your own risk, except where prohibited by signs or buoys. Swim and wade only where you are familiar with the water depths and lake bottom. Please do not swim alone and watch children closely.

Tours

Tours of the Dam are available to the public. Please call ahead or stop in the Visitors Center to make reservations.

Water Sports
